Competition Rules 2024

Art. 1 The Competition

GENERAL
  •  Competition open to pianists of any nationality.
  •  Works played without scores, with the exception of contemporary pieces presented at the Superior, Excellence, Amateur Concert Pianist and Concert Pianist levels.
  •  Audition dates and times are subject to change.
Concert Pianist diploma
  •  Maximum age: 32 years
  •  Please provide a CV of no more than one page in pdf format, and a full-face artistic photograph (in jpeg format and between 200 and 500 kb in size, passport copies are not accepted) and a letter of recommendation from a recognized person in the music world (teacher, artist...)
  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of their application file
  • Winners of a 1st Prize are no longer authorised to take part
  • Draw for audition time: 5 June 2024 at 16h30 (any candidate not present at the draw willbe eliminated)
  •  Qualifying auditions: 6 - 7 June 2024
  •  Final: 8 June 2024
  •  Announcement of the winners and prize-giving ceremony: 8 June 2024 at 7 p.m
    (finalists must attend in evening wear)
Excellence
  • No age limit
  • Auditions: 3 June 2024
  •  Please provide a CV of no more than one page in pdf format, and a full-face artistic photograph (in jpeg format and between 200 and 500 kb in size; passport copies are not accepted).
  • Prize-giving ceremony: after the auditions
Advanced
  • No age limit

Amateur Concert Pianist
  • Minimum age: 25 years.
  •  Auditions: 4 June 2024
  •  Prize-giving ceremony: after the auditions
  • Non-professional pianists: level equivalent to or higher than the completion of studies at a regional music school (equivalent to the French Diplôme d’études musicales DEM or Diplôme national d’orientation professionnelle de musique DNOP level or higher).
  • Please provide a CV of no more than one page in pdf format, and a full-face artistic photograph (in jpeg format and between 200 and 500 kb in size; passport copies are not accepted).
  • Proof of professional activity unrelated to piano playing.
Levels 1, 2, 3
  • Auditions: 2 June 2024
  • Prize-giving ceremony: between each set of auditions.
  • No repeats except Da Capo: in the event of non-compliance, the performance will be marked down.
  • Works played from memory and without the score, failing which the candidate will be eliminated.
  • The editions indicated for each work serve as reference. In the event of an error, the candidate will not be judged.
  • The number of accompanying persons per candidate is limited to two (parents or teacher).
    They are entitled to free admission to the set of auditions in which the candidate is taking part.

Art. 2 Registration & accommodation with host families

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 19 April 2024 at 24:00 CET.

  • Important: the number of candidates per category is limited: if the quota is reached before 19 April 2024, registration may be suspended.
  • Registration is only possible on the Competition website. Registration is valid only after receipt of all the application documents and payment of the registration fee.
  • Concert Pianist Diploma: candidates will be informed whether or not they have been accepted to participate before 1 May 2024, once their complete application has been examined.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
RULES FOR RE-ENTRY OF PREVIOUS WINNERS
  • Superior and Excellence: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize winners may only register for a higher level.
  • Concert Pianist Diplomawinners of a 1st Prize are no longer authorised to take part
  • Amateur Concert Pianist: winners of a 1st Prize or a special Amateur Virtuoso “recital" Prize are no longer authorised to take part.

The programme cannot be changed after the registration deadline.

ACCOMMODATION WITH A HOST FAMILY
  • Subject to availability, only for Superior, Excellence and Concert Pianist Diploma candidates aged 15 and over.
  • Accommodation from D-1 to D+1 of the audition date.
  • Concert Pianist Diploma: candidates must leave their host family by 9 June 2024 at the latest.
  • IMPORTANT: when a host family is allocated, candidates must contact this family within 7 days of receiving the information, failing which they will lose their place.
  • In the event of a withdrawal, the candidate must immediately inform the competition
    organisers (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and the host family.

Art. 3 Registration fee

  • Fees: non-refundable for any reason whatsoever (except article 9) once registration has been completed.

  • Ukraine: The Competition Committee renews its support for candidates of Ukrainian
    nationality by waiving the registration fees for the 2024 competition.

Art. 4 Invitations and rehearsals

  • Invitation: notification at least one week before the competition, stating the date and time of the candidate's audition.
  • The invitation sent by e-mail to the address given at the time of registration serves as acknowledgement of receipt. Please check for spams.
  • Pianos for rehearsals: available to candidates except for levels 1, 2 and 3, subject to prior reservation. As the number of rehearsal slots is limited, the competition organisers cannot guarantee that candidates will obtain a slot. Candidates who are able to do so are strongly advised to find their own rehearsal facility in Paris.
  • Warming up before the audition: all candidates (except for levels 1, 2 and 3) will have the opportunity to warm up before their performance (using another piano than the
    competition piano).

Art. 5 Awards

  • The Competition organisers accept no responsibility in the event of a change of date or cancellation of a concert or masterclass...
  • In the event of the unavailability of the winner on the dates set by the concert organisers, these dates cannot be postponed.

Art. 6 The Jury

  • Jury: appointed by Anne Queffélec and composed of eminent personalities from the world of music.

  • The Jury has the right to interrupt the candidate or not to award all of the prizes if the performance is unsatisfactory.

  • Deliberations: these are governed by the Jury's internal rules and are irrevocable and without appeal.

  • The jury's decision can only be obtained on site. No information will be sent by e-mail after the event.

Art. 7 Communication

  • Full transfer of the candidate's rights to Opus Yvelines for visual or sound recordings of the competition and the opening concert of the competition. Where appropriate, videos of the auditions may be posted on the website and social media managed by the competition.
  • Audition procedure: all auditions are public and open to everyone, subject to the capacity of the concert hall and in accordance with the programme.

Art. 8 Acceptance

Any registration for the competition implies acceptance of these rules and their appendices.

Art. 9 Cancellation

In the event of cancellation of the competition or any audition by the organisers, the
associated registration fees will be reimbursed to the candidates.
